Styling the Greggs Vegan Sausage Roll: Behind the Scenes of a National Food Launch
A Memorable End to 2018
My final project of 2018 was one I will always remember. I had the exciting opportunity to style the brand-new Greggs Vegan Sausage Roll ahead of its much-anticipated launch.
Even before it reached stores, the product had already attracted huge interest. Therefore, I felt especially proud to be involved in a campaign that would soon become one of the biggest food stories of the year.
As a food stylist and home economist, I enjoy working on projects where food, creativity and photography come together. Every assignment brings something new. However, each one also gives me the chance to create images that capture attention and tell a story.
Bringing a New Product to Life
Behind every successful food launch, a talented team works together to bring the vision to life. From the very beginning, we planned every detail carefully to ensure the final images looked their best.
My role involved styling the Vegan Sausage Roll for the campaign photography. Alongside the creative team, I prepared each product, refined the presentation and created images that highlighted both its quality and the personality of the Greggs brand.
Throughout the shoot, I focused on the small details that make a big difference. For example, I considered the texture, shape and overall appearance of the product to create a natural and inviting finish.
In addition, food styling requires patience, creativity and precision. Although the final images may look effortless, every adjustment helps create photographs that make the food look fresh, delicious and appealing.
A Launch That Captured the Nation
When Greggs launched the Vegan Sausage Roll, the response was immediate. Within just a few hours, customers had bought out stores across the country, creating excitement and conversation nationwide.
As the story gained momentum, the product became one of the most talked-about launches of the year. Consequently, it was incredibly rewarding to know that my work had contributed to such a successful campaign.
Later, while travelling through Newcastle Airport, I received another reminder of the campaign’s incredible reach. I spotted large promotional displays featuring the images I had helped create.
At that moment, I saw the full impact of the project. Not only did the displays celebrate the success of the launch, but they also highlighted the creativity and teamwork behind the campaign.
Looking Back on 2018
Ultimately, ending the year with such a high-profile project was the perfect way to finish 2018.
Looking back, this experience reminded me why I love working as a food stylist and home economist. Every project offers new challenges, fresh ideas and opportunities to collaborate with talented people across the food industry.
Most importantly, I feel grateful to work alongside creative teams and clients who share the same passion for producing memorable food imagery. After all, successful campaigns come from a combination of teamwork, creativity and attention to detail.
The Greggs Vegan Sausage Roll launch remains a fantastic example of how food styling can help bring a product story to life.
