Food Styling Ice Cream Recipes for Yorkshire Life Magazine
It’s always a pleasure to work with Nicky at The Bank Studio in Newburn, Newcastle upon Tyne. Over the years, we collaborated on many food styling projects together; however, this was certainly no ordinary assignment. This time, we were asked to create a selection of ice cream recipes for Yorkshire Life Magazine, showcasing the delicious range of Brymor ice cream.
How We Planned the Project
To begin with, we developed a variety of recipe concepts using different Brymor ice cream flavours. After exploring several ideas, we carefully narrowed the options down to three recipes for me to develop further.
Once the concepts had been finalised, I began creating and testing the recipes. During this stage, I refined each recipe, adjusted the flavours and wrote up the final versions ready for the photoshoot. Then, on a sunny Saturday morning, we headed into the studio and began styling and photographing three delicious ice cream creations.
The Recipes
As you can imagine, styling ice cream can be tricky at the best of times. However, styling it in the heat of July proved even more challenging. Because of this, we had to work quickly and carefully to capture the perfect shots before the ice cream started to melt.
The first recipe featured a tropical ice cream cake made with the delicious flavours of Brymor Tropical Mango and Banana ice cream. For this creation, I assembled individual mini cakes using layers of sponge and ice cream, before finishing them with fresh mango and toasted coconut to enhance the tropical theme.
Next, we created a refreshing Prosecco and raspberry ice cream float, combining grown-up flavours of mint and raspberry coulis. As a result, this elegant dessert was light, refreshing and perfect for enjoying in the summer sunshine.
Finally, we moved on to one of the most challenging combinations for any food stylist: ice cream and chocolate. Our mini honeycomb lolly pops proved particularly difficult in the summer heat. Nevertheless, we managed to freeze them thoroughly and work quickly enough to capture the photographs before the ice cream had a chance to melt and lose its shape.

Overall, it was a fantastic project combining creativity, recipe development and photography. Most importantly, it was a pleasure to bring these delicious ice cream ideas to life and work alongside such a talented team.
