Restaurant Hjem

Late last year the stunning Restaurant Hjem in Northumberland was the destination for one of our foodie adventures.

During our stay, the amazing team at Restaurant Hjem provided us with a memorable meal! Hidden away in the Northumberland village of Wall this restaurant was a wonderful discovery.

A warm welcome awaits at Restaurant Hjem

Located in the small village of Wall in the beautiful Northumberland countryside, Restaurant Hjem is truly a hidden gem. During the visit, we found out that this dining destination has a memorable and interesting name. The word Hjem (pronounced “yem”) is the Northumbrian and Scandinavian word for home.

This dining destination is the creation of Swedish Chef Alex Nietosvuori and his partner, Northumberland-born Ally Thompson. The menu showcases Alex’s Swedish cooking style along with Ally’s knowledge of Northumbrian produce. Also, the menu boasts the use of ingredients sourced from the surrounding farms and gardens of Northumberland.

This stunning restaurant has an open kitchen where the chefs can be seen at work. The tasting menu consists of between 15 and 18 Scandinavian style dishes. In addition, Hjem also offers a perfectly paired wine menu to accompany the tasting menu.

Keeping up to date with food trends is a part of a Home Economist’s role so reviews will feature on this blog. I travel extensively around the country sampling menus at a variety of restaurants. The opportunity to discover new foods and taste amazing wines is always a pleasure. On occasions, the reviews will include Michelin starred restaurants. Visits to pubs, street food vendors, festival foods or whatever take my fancy will also feature.

Here on my blog, I aim to share as many of the wonderful experiences I have had visiting some of the amazing restaurants that we have in the United Kingdom and beyond!
